Archaeology of
Health & Disease Western definitions of health emphasize
the physical condition. Therefore, the analysis of health in past societies has
long been the domain of physical anthropology and osteology. But the context
of these physical studies has frequently been removed from, or presented in
isolation of, other cultural or environmental associations. Archaeology is a
compliment to human physical studies, as it broadens our information about
the material remains of our cultural past, providing context, additional
evidence and a holistic perspective to our interpretations of health and
disease in past societies. Background
